The
Government has announced it’s working on a real-time bus tracking
service that will cover all the working routes offered by the Gibraltar
Bus Company.
The Bus Tracker WebApp will use location data
provided by GPS devices mounted inside each bus. Software will integrate
the geographical bus location data with the bus route information which
will then be embedded within Gibraltar’s geoportal maps to output the information displayed on the WebApp.
Users will be able to see transit maps displaying where the buses are located in real-time.
Transport and Traffic Minister, Paul Balban says the service will
improve the public transport experience of bus users by facilitating
real time information.
The app is expecting to be up and
running for bus routes one, two and three by the end of November, with
the remaining routes to follow in the coming months.
