The Private Universities
Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG), has described the main opposition New
Patriotic Party (NPP) as being irresponsible in handling matters of national
interest.
A statement issued by the national students body jointly signed by its President and Media Relations Director applauded the NPP for embarking on some initiatives that seeks to awaken the leadership of the country in the recent past.
“However, as a government in waiting, we expect evidence of formidable internal arrangements in the party to lead the country; one which is devoid of corruption- national canker. There is no way the home of the party would be dented but still proceeded to preach the good gospel to win political office. In all sincerity, it is a disgrace to openly champion a course whereas internal structures are broken and at the verge of destruction,” the release stated.
According to PUSAG, after months of rigorous monitoring of all entities that affect students’ interest directly or subtly, it has concluded that the largest opposition party which is expected by all standards to keep government on its toes is playing favoritism and popular gymnastics on the corridors of government.
“We believe the opposition can do better in terms of checking government policies and communicating its views to the good people of Ghana”.
According to the statement, PUSAG has recently received information of a circulating leaked secret audio about Lawyer Alexander AfenyoMarkins who also doubles as the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu constituency in the Central Region; who was allegedly caught illegally demanding an amount of money from the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) in connection with its Initial Public Offer (IPO).
“We as a student body expect constructive commentary from the largest opposition party especially its Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to condemn the alleged act of Corruption. However, the party and the Flagbearer have both been mute over the matter.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) of PUSAG demands a concrete decision on the legislature from the party’s Flagbearer and the party as a whole.
“We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join hands together in condemning such bribery and corruption activities that has coiled the nation”.
The student’s body cautioned policy makers and MP’s to desist from behaviors that does not help in shaping the nation in any form.
